In September 2016, an International Symposium organized by professors from the Universidad Nacional de la Plata UNALP and the Polytechnic University of Madrid UPM took place in La Plata (Argentina), whose title was: “The motor university for the transformation of society”.
It was born with a double and ambitious objective to show the path that some world-renowned universities have traveled and encourage - with a path of improvement in their government - to the set of 16 universities represented at the highest level on the noble task of serving society more effectively. One of the main presentations was developed by Carlos Fernandez Pello of the California Berkeley University, to which he belongs for 38 years.
From his dissertation, this text was prepared, which is attached and that with the title “The link with society in research universities” shows the keys to good governance and that we synthesize:
